Mikkeller Beer Celebration Faroe Islands (MBCFI)
After celebrating the 14th anniversary of Mikkeller Beer Celebration with more than 10.000 participants, we’re ready to bring our beloved beer festival to Faroe Islands for the first time. On October 11th and 12th, Tórshavn will become the fourth city to ever host a Mikkeller Beer Celebration after Copenhagen, Boston and Tokyo.
We’re all jazzed about taking the festival to Faroe Islands - a cluster of islands in the North Atlantic, always known for its dramatic cliff coasts and viking-like landscape that makes it perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing… and birdwatching.
In the past decade, Tórshavn has also developed into a modern culinary travel destination with world-class restaurants and an impressive local beer scene. With the warmth and hospitality of the Faroese people, we’re certain that Mikkeller Beer Celebration Faroe Islands will be a memorable event for beer geeks and cultural explorers alike.
Founder of Mikkeller, Mikkel Bjergsø, is a frequent visitor to the islands that holds a special place in the collective hearts of Mikkeller, marked by opening a Mikkeller Tórshavn bar in 2017 and now hosting the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Faroe Islands on October 11th and 12th!
3 facts about the Faroe Islands:
- Sheep outnumber people
The Faroe Islands are home to about 50,000 people and around 70,000 sheep. This means there are more sheep than people on the islands, which is reflected in the name "Faroe," derived from the Old Norse word "Færeyjar," meaning "Sheep Islands." - Absence of Trees
One of the most striking features of the Faroese landscape is the almost complete lack of trees. The harsh weather conditions and strong winds have made it difficult for forests to develop, giving the islands their distinctive, treeless appearance.
- OY Brewing
Besides running a bar in Tórshavn with the local gastro entrepreneur Johannes Jensen, Mikkel Bjergsø actively supports the local brewery, OY Brewing, which is also a bar and a restaurant all in one.
More than just a beer festival
Set against the stunning backdrop of Tórshavn's harbor in the Silo, the festival will feature approximately 200 different types of beer from 25 breweries worldwide such as Moksa (US), Bofkont (BE), Ārpus (LV), 3 Sons (US), Sour Cellars (US) and many more.
The concept is similar to other Mikkeller Beer Celebrations with our “free bar” concept. You simply grab your glass and geek out for three hours among some of the world’s best breweries.
Whether you’ve been in the game for years or just started to dip your toes into the world of craft beer then our festival is the perfect event for you to taste a ton of different beer styles and really explore the avantgarde of beer. As always the breweries will bring their rarest and most serious stash, ensuring an unforgettable adventure.
There will be four sessions lasting three hours each, where participants, for 475 kroner, have the opportunity to taste all the beer they desire from the 25 participating international breweries. It’s also possible to purchase access to all four sessions for 1450 kroner.
Besides that, we’ve curated special events throughout the weekend, including boat trips, running tours, hiking, and special tastings at Mikkeller Bar Tórshavn.
No matter whether you're a beer geek or a curious traveler, you better get ready for the most scenic beer festival the world will ever see.
